Onboard Policies
The Skipper
The skipper has full authority regarding navigation, safety, and general organization aboard. The crew commits to following all instructions and decisions made by the skipper.
Crew Duties
All members are expected to participate in daily tasks and watch duties as assigned by the skipper, commensurate with their skills, physical abilities and experience.
These tasks include and are not limited to:
- maneuvers
- steering
- sail handling
- navigation
- cooking
- cleaning
- maintenance of the vessel
The crew is obliged to handle and use the vessel and its equipment carefully and properly.
Alcohol Consumption
For safety reasons, the vessel operates under “dry ship” policy, meaning no alcohol consumption is allowed while sailing, or at anchor when there is a forseen possibility of having to weigh anchor and depart swiftly.
Reasonable alcohol consumption is allowed onboard only when moored in port, or at anchor at skipper’s sole discretion.
Excessive alcohol consumption aboard or ashore that leads to situations putting people at risk, or where the harmony of life on board is disturbed to an extent that other members are made uncomfortable, will not be tolerated. In this circumstnaces, the skipper reserves the right to disembark any crew before the end of the passage.
Prohibited Activities
The following are prohibited:
- Smoking below deck
- Possession or use of illegal substances
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Behavior disrupting harmony onboard or endangering the safety of the vessel or others aboard
Harmony aboard
Sharing a relatively small living environment for several days doesn’t always come natural.
Camaraderie and a friendly atmosphere is essential to fully enjoy a passage. To achieve that, we strongly encourage every crew to:
- maintain a kind, openminded and respectful attitude towards others and the environment.
- be a team player. Cooperation is essential on board, so being a team player and willing to take on tasks is important, both for good spirit and safety reasons.
- be eager to learn. Resilience and willingness to learn new skills and embrace the challenges of sailing, even in difficult weather conditions, and sharing it with others, is key to a succesful voyage.
Should a conflict arise between two or more crew, we encourage all parties to try their best and resolve the issue as early as possible, with an openminded and friendly attitude. If needed, the skipper may intervene and mediate for the sake of a peaceful atmosphere.
Inappropriate or Endangering Conducts
If a crew does not follow the skipper’s instructions, makes people uncomfortable, disrupts the voyage despite warnings, or even puts the crew and its ship at risk, the skipper will intervene and try to solve the problem.
If despite his/her efforts nothing changes, the skipper reserves the right to disembark the crew whose conduct endangers the vessel or other participants. In such case, the skipper may decide to sail the vessel to the nearest port to disembark that person.
